Sanderson, in Terrell County, on the historic Sunset Limited line, has Southern Pacific buildings dating back to 1883, when the depot was built. It was recently named one of the 10 most endangered railroad depots in the United States. About a dozen other vintage SP buildings are scattered around town. Some are pictured here. Sanderson was a crew-change point for more than 100 years.
Amtrak's Sunset Limited will stop on request at Sanderson, and the stretch between Del Rio and Sanderson takes you past Judge Roy Bean's saloon at Langtry, over the famed Pecos High Bridge and through the ruggedly picturesque canyon country favored by train robbers like Black Jack Ketchum.
